EMBRACING A COMPETENCY-BASED APPROACH: FOSTERING PEDAGOGICAL TOLERANCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

This article explores the significance of adopting a competency-based approach in fostering pedagogical tolerance within higher education institutions. Pedagogical tolerance refers to an individual's capacity to accept and appreciate diverse perspectives, experiences, and cultures within an educational setting. The challenges to promoting tolerance in higher education, such as cultural differences, prejudice, and resistance to change, are discussed. The competency-based approach, which focuses on developing essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes, is proposed as a solution to nurture pedagogical tolerance. Key competencies, including cultural awareness, communication skills, critical thinking, empathy, collaboration, and conflict resolution, are identified as crucial elements in this process.
